Cyprus is an island in the East Mediterranean. A British colony, which became a republic within the British Commonwealth in 1960.
After the inter-communal clashes during December 1963, a separate postal service was established on 6 January 1964, between some of the Turkish Cypriot areas, using handstamps inscribed "KIBRIS TURK POSTALARI". Following the intervention by the Republic of Turkey in July 1974, seven different stamp issues were put on sale in that part of the island controlled by the Autonomous Turkish Cypriot administration. In the year of 1986 with the establishment of the republic, all stamps were identified by the innsription "KUZEY KIBRIS TURK CUMHURIYETI"
On the sixth row of the second sheet is only one stamp of Turkish Cypriot Posts. Issued in 1990 from the World environment day, birds set. This stamp depicts a bird called the Chiff-Chaff.
