Christmas Mail 2012 - 5

Oleg sent me this cover with one of the two recent Christmas stamp issues of 2012. Thanks Oleg for the lovely cover. Earlier this year he had sent me one with the 2010 Christmas issue.

Latvia Post has been releasing stamps dedicated to Christmas since 1992, and two new additions to the series are made this year.

The design of the new stamps draws on traditional Christmas themes – a Christmas tree and gifts hidden under it and a winter scene with a house surrounded by fir trees covered with snow and a snowman, which is on the cover here. The new stamps were designed by artist Lilija Dinere.

Cover - Latvia

My third cover from Latvia and from Oleg. Beautiful cover. This time the stamps on the cover are fauna related. The setenant block was issued in April 2012 to commemorate 100th anniversary of the Riga Zoo and the other one depicts the Barn Swallow, a bird commonly seen all over Latvia. Thanks Oleg for the lovely cover

A nice cover from Latvia

Oleg sent me this cover that I received a couple of days back. Like Ive mentioned before covers with miniature sheets on them are always a delight.

The sheet depicts the Struve Geodetic Arc's elements in Latvia. This construction with other parts situated in Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine was built in the 19th century to establish the exact shape and size of the earth. In 2005, this complex was inscribed on the World heritage list. Love the sheet and cover.

Thanks Oleg Skleinov
