850th Anniversary of the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris

By far one of the best covers Ive received in recent times. Thanks a lot Pauline. What a beauty this is with the sheet of odd shaped stamps!! And Pauline was kind enough to also send me the souvenir sheet inside the cover.

The souvenir sheet commemorates the 850th anniversary of the Notre-Dame Cathedral of Paris. France Post issued this sheet on the 19th of January this year.

The background of the sheet shows a general view of the cathedral from the Seine side. The two stamps highlight the details of the stained glass window located in the west.

Below is a closer look at both the stamps. The quatrefoil (flower-shaped) stamp  illustrates the threshing of cereals and the round stamp features the Blessed Virgin and Child.

850 years have gone by since the first stone was laid in the foundation of the Notre-Dame Cathedral, under the direction of the bishop of Paris, Maurice de Sully, and in the presence of Pope Alexander III. The Notre-Dame Cathedral is built in the Gothic style, facing the rising sun in the East, in the form of a cross. Notre-Dame measures 130 meters long, 48 wide, 35 high and can accommodate over 6000 people. It was renovated after the horrors of the Revolution by the architect Viollet le Duc in 1844. Notre-Dame has one of the finest organs in the world and a collection of bells, some of which were renovated at the 850th anniversary of the cathedral.

Truly a beautiful addition to my collection of odd shaped stamps.

Cover - France

Hermes has turned some of its iconic scarf designs into stamps for La Poste’s annual Valentine’s Day “Heart” collection. This years edition features the French luxury brand’s “De tout coeur” scarf design by Zoe Pauwels.
"De tout coeur" in english means From the heart or whole heartedly. Not too sure. Maybe some of you french speaking visitors could comment.

This edition is the first time, it has issued a sheet of five stamps with different designs. The illustrations incorporate images of swans, hearts, shooting stars and a lyre, instrument of the messenger god Hermes. Here on the cover are three of the five stamps and the specially designed cancellation to go with the theme.

The postage stamps, sold in lots of five, are available for the very reasonable price of 2.90 euros – not a bad price from the same house who sells their famous Birkin bag for over 100,000 €!

Cover - France

Received this lovely cover from France.
The heart shaped stamp was issued on Valentine's day, 14th Feb 2012. The “Patch d’Amour” is designed a bit like a tattoo. The stamp is a clear sticker and the background depends on the surface on which it is applied.
I have more of the heart shaped stamps issued by La Poste in my collection of odd shaped stamps. Will do a post on it separately some time soon.

Cover - France

Another lovely cover from France. This one was sent from Trigny. Trigny is a commune in the Marne department of North Eastern France. Both Trigny and Marne can be seen on the clear cancellation on the stamps.

The stamps on the cover are two out of the set of six stamps issued commemorating the journey of the evolution of bicycles from invention till date. ''Les Velocipede des Origenes a nos jours'' in French. Velocipede literally means fast foot.

The stamps on this series are:
The Draisienne
Velocipede Pedals
Bicycle chain
The Penny Farthing
The bicycle tyre
The city bike.
