U.S.S.R

A country in the E. of Europe and N. Asia. An empire until 1917 when the Russian Socialist Federal Soviet Republic was formed. In 1923 this became the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.), eventually comprising 15 constituent republics.
In 1991 the U.S.S.R. was dissolved and subsequent issues were used in the Russian Federation only.
