Egypt Stamps

I have a very small collection of these stamps of Egypt. However as always these are arranged in order of date and year of issue. You may want to have a look at my stamps of the UAR too.

Modern Egypt was a part of Turkey until 1914 when a British protectorate was declared over the country and the Khedive was deposed in favor of Hussein Kamil under the title of sultan. In 1922 the protectorate ended and the reigning sultan was declared king of the new monarchy. Egypt became a republic on June 18, 1953. Egypt merged with Syria in 1958 to form the United Arab Republic. Syria left this union in 1961. In 1971 Egypt took the name of Arab Republic of Egypt.

1969-70: 7 stamps in this series . Designs include a pyramid, mosques, forts and a side view of King Khafre. The two that I have,

2011, Nov. 22: This beautiful set of christmas stamps is a wonderful representation of the season there. Makes you want to be in Switzerland in one of those quaint Zermatt chalets, it's pathways lined with snow, the clean and crisp mountain air and a roaring fire and star-lit sky.

Christmas Stamps of Switzerland

I always love doing a post on Christmas stamps and there are quite a few in my collection that I have to still put up here. Yesterday after putting up the cover from Switzerland I thought I might as well show you my Christmas stamps from this wonderful country.

The first Christmas stamp of Switzerland was issued as a semi-postal in 1987. I have the stamp and you can see it in the picture below, the first stamp, first row. Semi-Postal Stamps are stamps that include a first class postage charge, plus an additional amount to fund a charity or community cause, such as health care and research. The other stamp on the same row is also a semi-postal from the year 1998. In the two stamps on the first row, the additional amount for charity is 10c and 35c respectively.
