North Korea

A peninsula to the S. of Manchuria in E. Asia. Formerly an empire under Chinese suzerainty, it was annexed by Japan in 1910 and used Japanese stamps. After the defeat of Japan in 1945, Russian and United States Military administrations were set up in Korea to the north and south of the 38th Parallel respectively; in 1948 South Korea and North Korea became independent republics.

Here is my collection of miniature sheets and sheetlets of the country.

(all 50ch): Hump-backed whale (Megaptera nodosa)., Bottlenosed whale (Berardius bairdii)., Sperm whale (Physeter catadon).


1993, Feb. 25. Sea Fish
1.20w, Mako shark (Isurus oxyrhynchus). commemorates Naposta ’93, and the exhibition emblem appears as a marginal inscription.


1993, May 29. Birds
Sheetlet of 4, 10ch, Gray-headed green woodpecker (Picus canus). 60ch, Greater bird of paradise (Paradisea apoda).


Sheetlet of 2, 30ch, Lesser bird of paradise (Paradisea minor). 40ch, Paradise whydah (Steganura paradisea).


1996, June 2. Polar Animals, Set of 2 sheets
each 50ch: Arctic fox, Polar bear. Emperor penguins, Leopard seals.
