Pictorial Cancellations of Karnataka Postal Circle - Pt 2

Here are some more of those cancellations on postcards that I got yesterday. The pack has this written on the inside. "A cancellation is the postmark impressed on the postage stamp, confirming that the fee has been credited for transmitting the postal articles. Before postage stamps came into being it was the cancellation that was the postmark. The cancellation has evolved from a seal mark to machine franking, yet retaining its significance in the form of a pictorial cancellation which would be a permanent postmark in the post office. These pictorial cancellations are artistically designed to enhance the importance of a historic site, a tourist center and the uniqueness of architecture in a place of tourist interest or even a Philately exhibition of national or international importance. Like stamps these cancellations have a message of their own to convey."

Today, being a Saturday, and a day-off from work I made a trip to the post office. Usually a few stamps and sheets is what I purchase. But today, the attendant also brought out this wonderful pack of 31 postcards with special pictorial cancellations from post offices around the state of Karnataka. Covers - USA

Received these lovely covers from my good friend Ria from USA. Beautiful US Air force 50th Anniversary design on the cover makes this cover one of my favourites. I love the neat cancellations on the cover too. Very clearly readable, the first cancel indicates the date and place of sending. The other one encourages the use of ZIP codes.

In the cover, was this other FDC. Ria's put my address on it that makes it appear as a cover I received via post on the day of issue, April 14, 1982. Quite unlikely to pass it as that as I was only five then. Nevertheless a beautiful cover.

Ria also sent me this lovely strip of the 2011 "Send a Hello" stamps. A perfect fit into my 'Cartoons / Animations / Comics on Stamps' album.

The strip includes five different designs featuring Pixar characters:
Lightning McQueen and Mater from Cars (2006), my son Ethan's favourite.
Remy the rat and Linguini from Ratatouille (2007)
Buzz Lightyear and two of the green, three-eyed aliens from Toy Story (1995)
Carl Fredricksen and Dug from Up (2009) and the robot
WALL*E from WALL*E (2008).

The Send a Hello stamps are issued as Forever® stamps. Forever stamps are always equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.

Cover - Malta

This cover from Malta is only my second cover of Malta so far. The last one I had received, was received torn and though I had taped up the tear, I was always wanting to have another one for my album. This one fits the bill. However, since its got only one stamp on it, think the wait is still on for another nice cover from Malta.

The stamp on the cover is a part of the set of 17 defintive stamps issued by Malta Post on 29th Dec. 2009.

Cover - Malaysia

I got this other nice cover from Malaysia lately. The two stamps on the top were issued by Pos Malaysia on 7th October 2012 to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the founding of Malacca. Two of Malacca's oldest historical buildings the Cheng Hoon Teng temple and the Masjid Kampung Hulu are featured in the 50 sen and 90 sen denominations respectively.

Cover - Saudi Arabia, Country #81

Received this cover from Saudi Arabia. Unfortunately this cover reached me with a small tear on the top. The tear however wasn't across the stamps on the cover nor did it damage the contents inside. I like the clear cancellation on the cover, that shows Gulf Postal Services and the date of sending in Arabic.

Inside was the miniature sheet, that was issued along with the stamp commemorating Death of Heir Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz. The stamp and sheet were issued on 15th September 2012. There are two other sets of stamps and sheets issued on the Heir Princes that took over. I hope to have them in my collection too.
