USA - 1975

Contributors to the Cause: The four americans honored below on these four issues of the 1975 Contributers to the Cause stamps were unsung contributors to the Revolution. Their stories were printed on the back of their stamps.

8c. Sybil Ludington. The story reads:
Youthful Heroine
On the dark night of April 26, 1777, 16 year old Sybil Ludington rode her horse 'Star' alone through the Connecticut countryside rallying her father's militia to repel a raid by the British on Danbury.

10c. Salem Poor. His story reads:
Gallant Soldier
The conspicuously courageous actions of black foot soldier Salem Poor at the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775, earned him citations for his bravery and leadership ability.

10c. Haym Salomon. The best known of the four. The story reads:
Financial Hero
Businessman and broker Haym Salomon was responsible for raising most of the money needed to finance the American Revolution and later to save the new nation from collapse

18c. Peter Francisco. And the story:
Fighter Extrordinary
Peter Francisco's strength and bravery made him a legend around campfires. He fought with distinction at Brandywine, Yorktown and Guilford Court House.

The Americana Series:  This series of definitive stamps started in 1975. The various subjects relate to the culture and history of America. All the stamps have a common unique design element - an arch of lettering that runs along one side around the corner and across either the top or bottom of the stamp. When each group of 4 stamps is placed together the words form a frame around them.

And then my favourite of all.... a used BLOCK OF 4, my only one of my collection of US stamps.

Cover - Russia: First one to our new home address, Country #42

This is my very first cover from Russia. And the first one that I received here in our new home.

Any cover with odd shaped stamps goes straight to the top of my list of best covers. Thanks Vladimir Oshibkin. I want to have that entire set of castle definitives and also the animals set.

Cover - New Zealand, Country #41

This is my first cover from New Zealand. Love the NARNIA miniature sheet on it. It is one of 4 miniature sheets of Prince Caspian issued in 2008. Thank you Heather Goldfinch for the this wonderful addition to my cover collection.
