Egypt Stamps

I have a very small collection of these stamps of Egypt. However as always these are arranged in order of date and year of issue. You may want to have a look at my stamps of the UAR too.

Modern Egypt was a part of Turkey until 1914 when a British protectorate was declared over the country and the Khedive was deposed in favor of Hussein Kamil under the title of sultan. In 1922 the protectorate ended and the reigning sultan was declared king of the new monarchy. Egypt became a republic on June 18, 1953. Egypt merged with Syria in 1958 to form the United Arab Republic. Syria left this union in 1961. In 1971 Egypt took the name of Arab Republic of Egypt.

Cover - Canada

A great cover again from Johanne from Canada. The pen cancels have become a regular thing now and I get this one from Canada too. So far they would come from Great Britain. Nonetheless a lovely cover and many thanks to Johanne.

The stamps are a complete set of self adhesives from 2001 depicting various hot air balloons.

My stamps of the beautiful Switzerland - Pt 1

Switzerland!! One of the most sought after holiday destinations in the world. With scenic peaks, valleys, villages and lakes, it is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe and the world. For me....I am into this  beautiful country also for its stamps, and here are the ones that I have been able to collect so far. The stamps are as beautiful as the country itself and come in all kinds of varieties: embroidered, wood, odd shapes etc.

Only one stamp each of William tell and his son from early 1900s.

Three stamps from this series of 12 stamps. I have the 20c stamp here which has at least two variants. Will do a separate post on it some other time.

Singapore Revisited

Last time I posted on my collection of Singaporean stamps, I had put up a post on the odd shaped Orangutan, Care for nature stamps of the country. Well this time around, as I was shuffling through my Asian stamps collection, I knew I had to put up other stamps of this country on the blog.

A little history as usual before I start with the stamps....
Singapore, Malacca and Penang were the British settlements which, together with the Federated Malay  States, composed the former colony of Straits Settlements. On April 1, 1946, Singapore became a separate colony when the Straits Settlements colony was dissolved. Malacca and Penang joined the Malayan Union, which was renamed the Federation of Malaya in 1948. In 1959 Singapore became a state with internal self-government.
Singapore joined the Federation of Malaysia in 1963 and withdrew in 1965.

And now...the stamps,
1955, Sept. 4: Queen Elizabeth II, Traditional and mordern transportation tools
1962, Mar. 31: Fish, Orchids and Birds

1968, Dec: Folk Dance and Musical Instruments

1973: Stylized flowers & fruit
1977: Sea shells & marine life

1980: Ships & Boats definitives. I have most of the stamps from the set and ofcourse the most wanted ones, high values, are already there.

1990, July 4: Singapore tourism. Low value definitives. Only 2 from the set of 9 stamps.
1991, July 1: From the set of 4 on Civilian Airports. Paya Lebar. Factfile: From 1979 to 1980, British Airways, in conjunction with Singapore Airlines, began flights to Singapore in supersonic Concords from London's Heathrow Airport, to Paya Lebar Singapore.

Few from recent years.

1997 Transport Definitives - High Values
2007 Flora & Fauna Definitives
2010 Know 10 Trees
2011
Spices
Endangered Animal - Oriental Small-Clawed Otter
Pond Life
National Day - Areas of Historical Significance

Miniature Sheets
1984, Aug. 9: 25th anniv. of self-government.
The stamps and sheet were issued to commemorate Singapore’s 25 Years of Nation Building (1959 – 1984).
